South Canterbury’s public toilets have become the latest location for pitching road safety messages to tourist drivers to New Zealand, reports Stuff.co.nz.

South Canterbury Road Safety have put up maps in public toilets showing crash sites over the past five years, with safety warnings in English, Chinese, Indian, Japanese and Filipino.

The maps are placed above urinals and on the inside of toilet doors. The posters also provide links to websites with road safety messages in 14 languages.

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) statistics showed 625 injury crashes were reported in South Canterbury between 2011 to 2015. Eight per cent involved overseas drivers.
