The new Toyota Camry has been awarded a 5-star rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

The Camry achieved maximum points in the destructive pole and side impact crash tests. It earned a high score of 15.16 points out of a possible 16 points in the frontal offset test which replicates a head-on crash.

“The Camry remains a popular choice for families and fleet buyers so it is important high levels of safety are offered,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, James Goodwin. “It is encouraging to see the Camry fitted as standard with an autonomous emergency braking system which operates at city and highway speeds, as well as an active lane support system.”

The 5-star rating applies to all Camry variants – 4 cylinder, V6 and hybrid. The Toyota Camry is due to go on sale in New Zealand in March 2018.
